Onne, Rivers State – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone Command has achieved a remarkable feat in 2024, surpassing its annual revenue target by 2.3% and recording a total collection of ₦53.98 billion. This was revealed by Comptroller Seriki Adewale Usman during a press briefing held at the Command’s headquarters in Onne.
Speaking on the Command’s activities from January to November 2024, Comptroller Usman highlighted its unwavering commitment to excellence, trade facilitation, and regulatory compliance in managing Nigeria’s vital oil and gas sector. The Command successfully facilitated seamless importation and exportation processes for goods received via sea and air, while also overseeing value-added activities by licensed enterprises operating in the zone.
Major exports during the review period included refined sugar from Bundu Sugar Refinery, fertilizer from Notore Chemical PLC, as well as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and crude oil from Bonny Island.
The 2024 revenue figure represented a significant 98.6% increase over the ₦27.18 billion collected in 2023. Comptroller Usman attributed this success to strategic trade facilitation measures, compliance enforcement, and robust cooperation with stakeholders in the Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone.
He expressed appreciation to the Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone Authority for their support, as well as to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi , for his visionary leadership, which he described as instrumental to the Command’s achievements.
In his closing remarks, Comptroller Usman reassured the public of the Command’s dedication to revenue generation, trade facilitation, and transparency in clearance procedures. He also extended his best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
