The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has successfully hosted the maiden edition of the Annual Diplomatic Cultural Festival in Abuja, brought together members of the diplomatic community, international organisations, government officials, corporate partners, development agencies and the public in a celebration of cultural diversity and international cooperation.
The festival, held on Saturday at the Velodrome of the National Stadium, Abuja, was organised to strengthen diplomatic relations and promote people-to-people engagement through cultural exchange.
Participants showcased their countries’ rich cultural heritage through exhibitions, traditional cuisines, arts and crafts displays, musical performances, tourism exhibitions and networking sessions, creating a vibrant platform for intercultural interaction and collaboration.
Speaking at the event, the Chief of Protocol in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Wahab Akande, described the festival as a strategic platform for advancing cultural diplomacy, fostering mutual understanding and strengthening friendship among nations. He commended diplomatic missions, corporate sponsors and members of the organising committee for their contributions to the success of the inaugural event.
Also speaking, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps praised the Ministry for initiating the festival, noting that culture remains a powerful tool for promoting peaceful coexistence, international understanding and global cooperation. He urged diplomatic missions to continue supporting intercultural dialogue as a pathway to peace and sustainable development.
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who was represented by the Chief of Protocol due to an official engagement in Ethiopia, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to cultural diplomacy as a key pillar of the country’s foreign policy.
According to her, cultural exchanges serve as vital bridges connecting peoples and nations, fostering greater understanding, inclusiveness and global harmony. She subsequently declared the festival open.
Representing the Emeka Ofor Foundation, Mrs. Emeka Ofor underscored the importance of cultural exchange and enduring partnerships in promoting peace, prosperity and opportunities for future generations. She commended the Ministry for creating a platform that celebrates diversity while strengthening bonds of friendship among nations.
The event concluded with colourful cultural performances, networking activities and social interactions that further enhanced engagement among participants.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed appreciation to diplomatic missions, international organisations, sponsors, exhibitors and other stakeholders whose support contributed to the success of the inaugural festival.
