The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has assured that those responsible for the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar will be brought to justice, as a high-powered military delegation paid condolence visits to his family and the Katsina State Government.
The delegation, led by the Chief of Administration (Army), Major General IM Abdullahi, visited Katsina on Sunday on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General OO Oluyede, and the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to commiserate with the bereaved family and the people of the state over the tragic loss of the senior officer.
Speaking during the visit to the late General’s family residence, Major General Abdullahi described Major General Abubakar as a dedicated and patriotic officer who served Nigeria with distinction throughout his military career.
He noted that the deceased made significant contributions to the growth of the Nigerian Army and the country’s security architecture, adding that his service and sacrifice would remain a source of inspiration to serving and future generations of military personnel.
The Army chief further assured the family that the Armed Forces and relevant security agencies would spare no effort in tracking down and prosecuting those behind the General’s death.
“Major General Abubakar served the Nigerian Army and the nation meritoriously for over three decades. His years of dedicated service and sacrifice will not be forgotten,” he said.
As a mark of honour, Major General Abdullahi presented a National Flag to the family in recognition of the late officer’s dedicated service to the nation.
Responding on behalf of the family, the Gado da Masun Katsina, Alhaji Dikko Mu’azu Ruma, expressed gratitude to the CDS and the Armed Forces for standing by the family during the difficult period.
He described the visit as a demonstration of solidarity and support, while praying for the peaceful repose of the late General’s soul.
Earlier, the delegation paid a condolence visit to the Katsina State Government House, where they were received by the Deputy Governor, Mallam Faruk Lawal Jobe, on behalf of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
The Deputy Governor described the death of Major General Abubakar as a painful loss to Katsina State and Nigeria, noting that his commitment to national service and security would remain an enduring legacy.
He called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to tackle insecurity and end the activities of terrorists and other criminal elements across the country.
Jobe also reaffirmed the Katsina State Government’s commitment to supporting military and security operations aimed at restoring peace and stability in the North-West.
In his remarks, Major General Abdullahi thanked the state government for its continued support to the military, stressing that sustained cooperation between the military and state authorities remains critical to achieving lasting peace and security in the region.
Special prayers were offered at both the family residence and the Government House for the peaceful repose of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar.
Among those who accompanied the delegation were the Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General WB Idris; General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Major General BP Koughna; Rear Admiral AM Haruna; Air Vice Marshal AY Abdullahi; Major General JS Bindawa (rtd); Brigadier General SK Usman (rtd); and Air Vice Marshal IS Kaita (rtd), alongside traditional rulers, family members and other prominent sons of Katsina State.
