The Nigerian Navy has handed over 125 bags of seized foreign parboiled rice to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) following a successful anti-smuggling operation in Lagos State.
The handover took place on 5 May 2026 at Naval Base Epe, where officials of the NCS Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’ Ikeja, led by Superintendent of Customs Chinedu Eboh, formally received the seized items.
The consignment was intercepted on 29 April 2026 at about 3:00 a.m. after naval personnel, acting on credible intelligence, stopped a Peugeot J5 van with registration number EKY-168YC. The vehicle was found conveying 125 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice suspected to have been smuggled into Lagos through illegal border routes.
Representing the Commander of Naval Base Epe, Captain Levi Deyin, the Acting Executive Officer, Lieutenant Commander Elvis Egbe, handed over the items to Customs authorities in line with established inter-agency collaboration procedures for further investigation and necessary action.
The Nigerian Navy said the operation highlights its sustained commitment to combating smuggling, safeguarding the nation’s economy, and enhancing internal security through coordinated efforts with other security agencies.
It reaffirmed its resolve to continue operations against illegal activities within Nigeria’s maritime and littoral domains.
