The Nigerian Navy has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening transparency and governance in Nigeria’s maritime sector through closer collaboration with the Equipment Leasing Registration Authority (ELRA).
The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, gave the assurance on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, while receiving the leadership of ELRA during a courtesy visit to Naval Headquarters in Abuja.
According to the naval chief, improved documentation, traceability and accountability of maritime assets are critical elements for effective maritime security operations within Nigeria’s territorial waters.
Vice Admiral Abbas emphasized that the Navy would continue to support regulatory and institutional frameworks aimed at enhancing oversight of vessels and maritime equipment operating in Nigerian waters.
He noted that stronger collaboration between maritime security institutions and regulatory authorities would promote asset transparency, improve enforcement effectiveness and reinforce the broader architecture for maritime security and economic stability.
The engagement highlighted the strategic importance of cooperation between security agencies and regulatory bodies in ensuring proper governance of maritime assets and sustaining stability in Nigeria’s maritime domain.
