The Nigerian Navy has recorded significant operational successes in ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency efforts under Operation Fasan Yamma in the North-West region, reinforcing its role in joint security operations across the country.
In a statement signed by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Navy disclosed that its troops carried out a series of coordinated offensives against violent extremist insurgents (VEIs), leading to the rescue of kidnapped victims and the neutralisation of criminal elements.
On April 18, 2026, personnel deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ibira responded swiftly to distress calls following gunshots along the Doka–Ibira axis. Upon arrival, the troops engaged the attackers in a firefight. The insurgents were overpowered and forced to flee, abandoning their victims at the scene.
Five victims were rescued during the operation. Four of them, who sustained varying degrees of gunshot injuries, were immediately evacuated to the General Hospital in Idon for medical treatment, while one victim was confirmed dead. The troops also recovered the victims’ vehicle, while further exploitation of the area was carried out to track the fleeing assailants.
In a related development on April 20, 2026, troops of the 2 National Mission Force Brigade, acting on credible intelligence, executed a coordinated ambush at Anguwan Haske. The operation resulted in the neutralisation of one insurgent and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle. No casualties were recorded among the naval personnel.
Similarly, troops stationed at FOB Dokan Karji responded to another distress call from Kushere Village, where suspected insurgents had abducted civilians. The naval team swiftly mobilised and engaged the criminals in a gun battle, successfully forcing their retreat. Three kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed during the operation.
The Nigerian Navy noted that the operations highlight its sustained commitment to supporting national efforts in combating terrorism and violent extremism. It reiterated its resolve to continue deploying operational assets in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure peace and stability across the country.
The Navy also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to enhance the effectiveness of ongoing operations nationwide.
