Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has announced that Nigeria’s economy was recovering, marking a significant turning point. Speaking at a distribution event for flood relief items at the Government House, he expressed optimism about the country’s economic future.
“We have crossed the Rubicon and are now on a trajectory of sustainable growth. The worst is over, and we anticipate a bumper harvest in the upcoming farming season,” Shettima stated.
He commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for his leadership in fostering peace and development in Nasarawa State, positioning it as a key player in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
“Nasarawa is a testament to Nigeria’s diversity and unity, thriving under strong leadership. Its role as an agricultural powerhouse is critical to the nation’s food security,” he emphasized, advocating for continued federal support in agriculture.
The Vice President also highlighted the importance of empowering traditional rulers and local governments with farming equipment to boost agricultural productivity.
Governor Sule, during the graduation ceremony of 1,128 trainees at the Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Technology Institute, outlined his administration’s efforts to address the Almajiri issue. He announced plans to integrate Almajiris into productive society through vocational training and the establishment of dedicated institutions in Wamba and Nasarawa.
“We are committed to providing skills and opportunities for Almajiris, ensuring they transition from the streets to self-reliance,” Sule declared.
Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, who sponsored 20 trainees, lauded the initiative for tackling poverty and fostering unity, especially in Northern Nigeria.
“This program is a crucial step towards alleviating poverty and promoting national cohesion,” Bishop Kukah remarked, underscoring its potential impact on Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape.
