The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has disclaimed a fake, artificially generated video making rounds on social media, which fraudulently features a cloned voice of its Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Bayo Bashir Ojulari.
In a statement issued by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, the company described the video as misleading and deceptive, clarifying that it has no affiliation with any such poverty alleviation or investment scheme.
NNPCL. revealed that the false video was originally circulated by a Facebook account named Mensageiro de Cristo, and warned members of the public to disregard its contents.
The company further cautioned those behind the fraudulent production to desist from their criminal acts or face the full weight of the law.
“The perpetrators are hereby warned to cease their fraudulent actions or be ready to face legal consequences,” the statement emphasized.
