Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello said Northern Governor’s Forum would soon discuss and come up with position to address the menace of Almajiris in the region.
Receiving the State Council of Traditional Rulers, who were on Sallah homage to Government House, Minna, the governor expressed optimism that curbing the Almajiri(begging) would greatly improve the challenges of insecurity that has bedevilled the North.
He stated that the Governors, in collaboration with religious and traditional rulers must summon courage to confront the challenges of insecurity and begging before they annihilate the region.
“We are all aware of the problems and how to tackle them, but over the years we lacked the political will to do so. That negative disposition must change in the collective interest of the region”.
The Governor announced that the Federal Government and States were working on an undisclosed strategy that would bring lasting solution to the challenges of armed banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling and other criminal tendencies that have retrogressively affected the region.
While appreciating the council for its support to the administration, the Governor appealed to the Emirs, District and Village Heads to be proactive, impress on their wards to monitor movement of people and report individuals or groups they suspect or are not comfortable with to security agencies.
Governor Sani Bello also urged Nigerlites to be more active in community policing stressed that the issue of insecurity have become everybody’s business.
Earlier in his remarks , the Chairman of the State Council of Traditional Rulers and Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar congratulated the Governor on his reelection and prayed for God’s guidance.
The Etsu Nupe who expressed appreciation on the developmental strides of the Governor Sani-Bello administration in the last four years, pledged the support and loyalty of the traditional rulers in the years ahead.
