The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Zone 7 Headquarters in Abuja has launched an investigation into allegations of extortion involving personnel of its Cybercrime Section, following a viral social media post.
In a press statement issued by the Zone’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Halima, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7, AIG Victor Olaiya, confirmed that although no formal complaint had been previously lodged, the command is taking the allegations seriously.
The statement clarified that Zone 7 Headquarters served as the administrative and supervisory authority over both the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command and the Niger State Police Command, with a mandate to ensure discipline, professionalism, and adherence to the law among officers.
According to the police, the AIG has directed a “comprehensive and far-reaching investigation” to identify any personnel involved in the alleged misconduct. The command stressed that it will not tolerate corruption or any act capable of eroding public trust.
“AIG Victor Olaiya remains resolute in his commitment to checkmating all forms of misconduct, particularly corrupt practices, in line with the reform agenda of the Inspector-General of Police,” the statement read, adding that any officer found culpable will face disciplinary action in accordance with the law.
The police also urged members of the public to report cases of misconduct through official channels, assuring prompt response and action.
Zone 7 reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, professionalism, and service, while providing emergency and complaint response contacts for both the FCT and Niger State commands.
