The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), led by its President-General, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, has formally announced the winners of the 39th National Qur’anic Recitation Competition. The event, which took place from December 20 to 28, 2024, in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, showcased the outstanding talents of male and female reciters across six categories.
The competition, organized by the Centre for Islamic Studies, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, featured participants from various states in Nigeria. The winners of each category have been declared eligible to represent Nigeria in international Qur’anic competitions for the year 2025.

1. Memorization of the Whole Qur’an with Tafsir & Qira’at
Female: Rumaisa’u Dahir Ibrahim (Gombe) – 95.60%
Male: Bukhari Sunusi Idris (Kano) – 98.20%
2. Memorization of the Whole Qur’an with Tafsir
Female: Khadijah Aliyu Ubam (Nasarawa) – 96.60%
Male: Bilal Hamza Abubakar (Zamfara) – 96.20%
3. Memorization of 60 Hizbs of the Glorious Qur’an
Female: Khadija Ibrahim Aliyu (Kaduna) – 99.50%
Male: Abdussalam Rabiu (Katsina) – 98.80%
4. Memorization of 30 Hizb of the Glorious Qur’an
Female: Aishatu Suleiman Isgogo (Kebbi) – 98.50%
Male: Lawal Jafar (Sokoto) – 97.41%
5. Memorization of 10 Hizbs of the Glorious Qur’an & Tangheem
Female: Sumayyah Umar Sheik (Niger) – 96.50%
Male: Mahmud Bashar (Jigawa) – 92.80%
6. Memorization of 2 Consecutive Hizbs of the Glorious Qur’an
Female: Fatima Bello Abdullahi (Cross River) – 98.30%
Male: Mohammed Sani Hassan (Ebonyi) – 96.30%
The NSCIA emphasized the exclusive eligibility of the announced winners to participate in international competitions, cautioning against any misrepresentation by participants claiming to represent other nations.
In his remarks,Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, Secretary-General of NSCIA, expressed gratitude to all participants, sponsors, and supporters of the competition. He encouraged the winners to uphold the values of Islam and continue to be exemplary ambassadors of the Ummah.
The Council’s declaration highlighted the significance of the competition in promoting Qur’anic education and fostering unity within the Muslim community in Nigeria.
