The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has warned Corps Members against participating in political campaigns, rallies, or activities that could associate them with any political party.
General Nafiu gave the warning while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Corps Members at the NYSC Lagos State Orientation Camp, Iyana-Ipaja, stressing that the scheme remains an apolitical organisation.
He urged Corps Members to avoid mixing NYSC activities with partisan politics, advising them to focus on national unity, discipline, and personal development throughout their service year.
“Do not get involved in the campaign of any political party. Don’t mix NYSC with politics. You should stay clear of politics,” he cautioned.
The NYSC boss also advised the Corps Members to use social media responsibly and avoid offences including cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and cyber fraud, warning that offenders would face the consequences of their actions.
He encouraged them to build a positive future by cultivating financial discipline, embracing savings, and exploring opportunities that would improve their economic prospects.
General Nafiu further urged the Corps Members to take advantage of the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme and the NYSC/Kudimata Capital Market Awareness Sensitisation Programme designed to equip them with financial knowledge and investment skills.
According to him, the capital market initiative would help Corps Members make informed financial decisions and develop investment capacity.
The NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs Christianah Salmwang, disclosed that the orientation camp registered 9,955 Corps Members, including those undergoing their orientation course in other states.
She commended the Corps Members for demonstrating enthusiasm, discipline, and readiness to serve the nation.
