Travel time between Benin City and Iruekpen in Edo State has been drastically reduced to just 45 minutes following a strategic intervention by the Edo State Government on the previously dilapidated Benin-Iruekpen Federal Government Road.
Governor Monday Okpebholo, who recently assessed the project during a trip along the route, expressed satisfaction with the improvement, noting that what once took several hours—if not days—can now be completed in less than an hour.
“Until now, you could spend days on this road to get to Iruekpen, but today it will only take you 45 minutes because the road is now smooth and better,” the governor said.
He attributed the success of the road intervention to Edo State’s alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said has brought infrastructural development to the state.
“Edo State is enjoying massive infrastructural development because the state keyed into the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The president’s love for the people of Edo State has ensured that we receive the dividends of democracy through practical governance,” he added.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized that his administration is committed to practical governance that directly impacts the lives of the people. He assured that developmental projects will continue across the three senatorial districts of the state.
“My administration has embarked on practical governance that all will see, feel, and experience. With the completion of this project, the state will continue to enjoy the benefits of improved infrastructure,” he said.
He thanked Edo people for their support and trust, reiterating that their welfare remains his top priority.
“I get my strength to work tirelessly from the people because they are the reason I am occupying this position today as governor of Edo State,” he stated.
Also speaking, a representative of the construction company, Engr. Bajwa Mohd, confirmed that the project has significantly improved commuting on the route. “The road is smoother now, and the transit period has reduced for journeys from Benin City to Ekpoma as travelers now enjoy their trips,” he noted.
The intervention on the Benin/Ekpoma/Auchi Road is one of many initiatives by the Okpebholo administration aimed at improving critical infrastructure across the state, ensuring a safer, faster, and more comfortable travel experience for residents and visitors alike.
