The Niger State Police Command has intensified efforts to combat crime across the state, leading to several arrests and recoveries in the aftermath of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration. The operations, carried out between late May and June 11, 2025, targeted theft, vandalism, armed robbery, and public disturbances in various parts of the state.
In a major breakthrough, police operatives on June 6, 2025, recovered a stolen ash-coloured Pontiac vehicle with registration number MNA 751 TL in Danmani Area, Igabi LGA, Kaduna State, hours after it was reported stolen from the Gidan-Kwano Eid Praying Ground, Tunga, Minna. The recovery followed a swift technical intelligence operation and collaboration with the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Kaduna State Command. The suspect is currently at large as investigations continue.
In another development, a 24-year-old woman, Nana Mubarak, was arrested for allegedly stealing household items valued at over ₦1 million from a tenant living in her mother’s house at El-Waziri area, Minna. The stolen items, ranging from kitchenware to electronic appliances, were traced to her residence. She confessed to transporting the items while the victims were away. She also admitted selling a plasma TV to one Abdullahi Aliyu for ₦55,000. Both suspects have been charged to court.
Also, on June 7, 2025, operatives of ‘B’ Division Bida arrested Ndagi Mohammed of Ndejiko village, Edati LGA, for vandalizing electric poles and stealing AEDC electric cables. The cables were recovered, and the suspect is under investigation.
In Suleja, following a spike in reported robberies, a coordinated sting operation led to the arrest of nine suspects on June 10. Six members of an armed robbery gang were arrested with dangerous weapons around Guaraka, while three others were caught at APC Quarters with suspected cannabis and incriminating items. All suspects are undergoing investigation and will be charged accordingly.
Furthermore, in the early hours of June 11, six suspects aged 19–20 were apprehended in Tunga, Minna, for thuggery and disturbing public peace. The gang, led by Abdulwahab Suleiman, was arrested following intelligence raids by Tudun-Wada Division. Weapons including six cutlasses, a knife, scissors, and suspected cannabis were recovered. They will be transferred to the SCID Minna for prosecution.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, assured that the command remained committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Niger State.
