The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a series of operational successes across Osun, Kano, Katsina, Rivers, Anambra and Kwara States, leading to the arrest of suspects, recovery of firearms and ammunition, stolen vehicles and livestock, as well as the disruption of armed robbery and banditry activities.
In Osun State, police operatives on August 12 intervened in a dispute involving a suspect and another individual at Okuku. A subsequent search of a white Hilux vehicle belonging to the suspect led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun. The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Osogbo, is investigating the case.
In Kano State, police acting on credible intelligence intercepted a suspicious parcel at Rijiyar Zaki Motor Park on August 13. A Tokarev pistol loaded with 48 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition was recovered, while the suspect was arrested. Preliminary investigation revealed that the firearm and ammunition were allegedly being forwarded to another individual in Kebbi State.
Also in Kano, police operatives arrested five suspected armed robbers in Jajaye Local Government Area following credible intelligence. Investigations linked the suspects to alleged cases of criminal trespass, conspiracy and armed robbery in Jajaye and surrounding communities. The suspects reportedly confessed to stealing about five motorcycles and other valuables.
In another operation in Kano, two suspects were arrested after police patrol operatives responded to reports of stolen livestock in Gaya. The suspects were intercepted while allegedly in possession of a stolen cow and ram, both of which were recovered as exhibits.
In Katsina State, police operatives and other security personnel repelled an attack by heavily armed bandits who invaded neighbouring communities and rustled livestock on August 12. The security forces engaged the attackers in a sustained gun battle, forced them to retreat into the bush with suspected gunshot injuries. One motorcycle belonging to the bandits was subsequently recovered during clearance operations.
The Katsina Police Command also arrested three suspected members of a vehicle theft syndicate and recovered a golden-coloured Volkswagen Golf Wagon allegedly stolen from Garko Local Government Area of Kano State. Two fabricated master keys were also recovered from the suspects.
In Rivers State, a suspect allegedly posing as a military officer was arrested during a police patrol along Ada-George, Port Harcourt, between August 10 and 11. Four suspected stolen vehicles were recovered from the suspect, alongside an axe and military accoutrements. Police also discovered that the chassis and engine numbers of the recovered vehicles had allegedly been tampered with.
In Anambra State, two suspects fled into the bush after abandoning an unregistered motorcycle and a bag when they encountered police operatives conducting stop-and-search operations at Isuanaocha Bridge on August 13. Two fabricated Beretta pistols and other items were recovered from the abandoned bag.
Meanwhile, in Kwara State, police operatives swiftly responded to a violent communal dispute at Elere Village, Bani, on August 12 and brought the situation under control. Two persons injured during the clash were evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, ANIPR, said the various operations demonstrate the Police Force’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property, disrupting criminal networks and maintaining public safety across the country.
All the cases remain under investigation by the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments.
