The Nigeria Police Force has recorded major operational successes across the country in the last 24 hours, dismantling a suspected terrorist network in Imo State and arresting suspects linked to murder, cultism, infanticide, armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms, railway vandalism and other crimes.
The Force said its operatives attached to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) raided a suspected terrorist hideout at Eziudo in Ezinihite Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, where four armed suspects were arrested.
According to the police, exhibits recovered during the operation included three pump-action guns, 30 live cartridges, Biafra flags, military and police uniforms, recruitment forms, charms and photographs of purported leaders. The suspects reportedly confessed to ongoing recruitment activities and involvement in several terrorist attacks across the state.
In a separate operation in Imo, police operatives arrested 23-year-old Opara Ikechi and four other suspected cultists at Bishop’s Court in Owerri. Four locally fabricated firearms, 31 rounds of live ammunition, a dagger and a suspected confraternity scarf were recovered. The suspects are being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Owerri.
In Benue State, police arrested one Nancy Sunday for allegedly killing her one-month-old stepdaughter by smashing the infant’s head while the child’s mother, Miracle Sunday, was away in Anambra State. Detectives processed the scene, evacuated the corpse to the Teaching Hospital Morgue in Aliade for autopsy, while the SCID in Makurdi has commenced investigation.
In Lagos State, police arrested Damilare Oladuni Orija for allegedly stabbing 19-year-old Jide to death with a pair of scissors during an altercation at Agboyi 1, Alapere-Ketu. The victim’s body was deposited at a public morgue for preservation and autopsy, while the SCID in Panti is handling the case.
In Ebonyi State, police operatives apprehended 22-year-old Ezekiel Francis Akam at his hideout in Oriuzor, Ezza North Local Government Area following credible intelligence from local vigilantes. The suspect is linked to a December 2025 armed robbery case. He reportedly attempted to flee but was arrested with suspected cartridge wounds on his left leg. A battle axe was recovered during a search of the premises, and he is receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, while investigations continue.
Similarly, in Akwa Ibom State, police arrested 33-year-old Divine Effiong Udo following reports of gunshots in Ikot Obong Otor village. Officers recovered a single-barrel gun and two expended cartridges, while investigations are ongoing to apprehend other suspected gang members.
In the Federal Capital Territory, police recovered an abandoned ash-coloured Peugeot 406 with registration number GWA 124 GP from the basement of the 21st Mall in Gwarinpa after the vehicle remained unclaimed for 15 days. Investigators are working to establish its ownership.
Also in the FCT, police arrested Ikoh Precious, 26, and Fabian Agaar, 30, of Angwan Rogo for allegedly vandalising critical railway infrastructure and forcing an oncoming train to make an emergency stop. The suspects are currently under investigation by the FCT Criminal Investigation Department.
