The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged Nigerians living abroad to continue projecting the country’s positive image by celebrating its achievements and serving as worthy ambassadors wherever they reside.
Dabiri-Erewa made the call during a visit to two distinguished Nigerians in the United Kingdom—Councillor Christopher Adegoke, Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council and the first person from an ethnic minority background to occupy the office since the council’s establishment in 1889, and Councillor Rosaline Oguro, who was recently sworn in as Mayor of Islington.
She described Adegoke’s emergence as another testament to the excellence, resilience and leadership qualities of Nigerians in the diaspora, noting that the achievements of Nigerians abroad continue to enhance the country’s global reputation.
Responding, Mayor Oguro thanked the NiDCOM boss for the visit and encouraged Nigerians to continue promoting the nation’s good image wherever they find themselves.
Dabiri-Erewa also celebrated the academic accomplishments of Dorcas Akanbi, who graduated from Rostov State Medical University in Russia with an outstanding CGPA of 4.90/5.00, and Dr. Monilola Adeshina, who emerged as the valedictorian and overall best graduating student of the Medical Class of 2026 at the Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland.
She described their achievements as evidence of the brilliance, determination and global competitiveness of Nigerian youths, saying such successes continue to elevate Nigeria’s profile on the international stage.
The NiDCOM boss commended the four Nigerians for making the country proud and urged others in the diaspora to pursue excellence while remaining exemplary representatives of Nigeria.
According to her, although every nation faces challenges, Nigerians should deliberately celebrate the country’s successes and the positive contributions of its citizens across the world.
She also noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is implementing far-reaching reforms and critical infrastructure projects aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth and national prosperity.
Dabiri-Erewa called on Nigerians in the diaspora to support national development through their expertise, investments, skills and global networks, while reaffirming NiDCOM’s commitment to recognising and engaging outstanding Nigerians whose achievements continue to promote the country’s image globally.
