Security personnel at Nana College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Otakuhi, have neutralised a suspected intruder following an early-morning security breach that left one guard seriously injured.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. when unidentified individuals reportedly gained unauthorised access to the campus and broke into the office of the Chief Security Officer (CSO). The suspects were said to be attempting to remove a wall-mounted plasma television when they were confronted by on-duty security staff.
During the encounter, a security guard, Daniel Itodo, engaged one of the intruders in a physical struggle. He was overpowered, pinned against a wall, and nearly strangled, sustaining multiple injuries in the process. Despite his condition, Itodo managed to regain control, subdue the suspect, and restrain him with a rope before backup arrived.
Subsequent developments indicated that the situation escalated before additional security personnel intervened. The suspect was ultimately neutralised under circumstances that remain under investigation.
Initial efforts to escalate the incident internally reportedly faced delays due to difficulties in reaching relevant authorities. However, Officer Matron R. E. Akor, who arrived shortly after the incident, successfully facilitated communication with the police.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and his team responded promptly, secured the scene, and evacuated the suspect later confirmed dead to a mortuary.
While preliminary accounts suggested the possibility that the intruders intended to harm individuals on campus, potentially targeting students, authorities have yet to confirm any specific motive. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the incident was an attempted theft or part of a broader security threat.
The college management has not issued an official statement as of the time of this report.
