The Senate Committee on Police Affairs, led by its Chairman, Senator Abdulhamid Mallam-Madori (Jigawa North East), has called for enhanced cooperation between the Senate and the Police Service Commission (PSC) to tackle Nigeria’s security challenges effectively.
This was highlighted during the screening of nominees submitted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointment as PSC members. The screening, conducted on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, took place behind closed doors to assess the nominees’ suitability for the roles.
The nominees screened included:
DIG Buba Ringim (Rtd)
Hon. Justice Adamu Paul Galumje, JSC (Rtd)
Christine Ladi Dabup
Abdulfatah Muhammed
Senator Mallam-Madori stressed the importance of appointing individuals with both academic and professional competence to the commission, given its critical role in approving promotions and enforcing disciplinary actions within the Nigeria Police Force.
Explaining the need for a private screening, the senator said it allowed the committee to thoroughly evaluate the nominees’ expertise in handling sensitive security matters.
He assured that the committee’s findings and recommendations would be presented to the Senate for further legislative action.
