President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has announced a ₦50 million support package for five families affected by the recent abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area of Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Akpabio made the announcement during Wednesday’s plenary, describing the intervention as a gesture to support families that suffered tragic losses during the incident.
Under the package, ₦10 million will be presented to each of the families of three security personnel who were killed during the rescue operation, as well as the families of two teachers who also lost their lives.
The Senate said the intervention reflects its commitment to standing with victims of insecurity, while lawmakers urged security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue other abducted persons and tackle the growing menace of kidnapping across the country.
However, Senator Abdul Ningi, while raising a point of order, appealed for a broader compensation framework that would cater to all victims of similar attacks.
He argued that support for victims of insecurity should be inclusive and not limited to a select group, stressing that every Nigerian who suffered losses from such incidents deserved equal consideration and assistance.
