Members of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), National Assembly Chapter on Monday 7th October,2024 came out in their numbers to protest against what they termed authoritarian leadership style of Sunday Sabiyi -led executive.
According to them,if nothing is done urgently to address the high-handedness and financial impropriety being carried out by the present executive, there is fears that this noble association may cease to exist.
Addressing the crowd which gathered at the National Secretariat of PASAN at Jabi (Abuja), Yusuf Muhammed Abiola who spoke on behalf of his colleagues said that at the heart of the crisis was alleged mismanagement of Three Billion Naira by Sunday Sabiyi -led executive from check off dues, subvention, aid, grants, income generated from PASSAN buses, current and non-current assets.
The communique revealed that, the crises started five years ago but became unbearable in the second quarter of 2024.
Records available shown that, in 2019,fourteen executives were elected but the Chairman Sunday Sabiyi allegedly colluded with stakeholders to illegally remove nine,this action paved way for a select few to manage the affairs of the association.
With a selected few at the helms of affairs came lack of accountability,lack of transparency and mismanagement of the finances of the association which resulted in the passage of vote of no confidence and resultant impeachment of the executive on 15 July 2024.
The members therefore demanded reforms in the following;
-That the vote of no confidence passed by congress be ratified,
-A caretaker committee be set up within fourteen days by the National Leadership,
– protection of members from victimization,
– publication of audited financial statement from 2019 till date.
