Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully foiled a coordinated terrorist attack on Kukareta in the early hours of Thursday, inflicting heavy losses on the assailants and recovered a cache of weapons.
The troops, operating under Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force (North East), repelled the attack which began shortly after midnight and lasted until about 3:00 a.m. According to military authorities, the insurgents were met with a swift and coordinated response that forced them into a chaotic retreat.
During the engagement, at least 24 terrorists were neutralised, while troops commenced exploitation of the battlefield, leading to the recovery of a large quantity of arms and ammunition. Items recovered include 18 AK-47 rifles, three General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), two PKT machine guns, three Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) tubes, two mortar tubes, four hand grenades, and several AK-47 magazines, along with belts of 7.62mm ammunition.
The military disclosed that two soldiers sustained injuries during the operation but have since been stabilised. It also noted that a reinforcing armoured vehicle was damaged, with its tyres blown out during the firefight.
Further exploitation operations are ongoing, with troops tracking the fleeing insurgents along withdrawal routes marked by blood stains and abandoned medical supplies, indicating significant casualties among the attackers.
Military authorities said the operation underscores the resilience, combat effectiveness, and firepower of Operation HADIN KAI troops in denying terrorists freedom of action in the North East.
The High Command commended the troops for their performance and urged them to maintain sustained offensive operations to eliminate remaining terrorist elements across the theatre.
