Abuja Residents to Experience 30-Minute Power Cut as TCN Announces Katampe Substation Maintenance

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a scheduled maintenance operation at the Katampe 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

TCN said the maintenance, which is scheduled to run from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., is aimed at enabling its maintenance crew to reconnect the newly installed 330kV Busbar 1 disconnector switch of the 75Mvar System Shunt Reactor to the 330kV Busbar 2. The company apologised for any inconvenience the exercise may cause electricity consumers in the affected areas.

As a result of the switching operation, customers of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in Wuse Zones 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7, Utako, Jahi, Jabi, the Central Business District (CBD), parts of Maitama and Mpape will experience a 30-minute power interruption.

The interruption is expected to occur between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., during the switching operation.

TCN explained that the planned work is necessary to facilitate the safe reconnection of the newly installed equipment and enhance the reliability of the transmission infrastructure serving the Federal Capital Territory.

The transmission company urged electricity consumers in the affected areas to bear with it during the brief interruption.
