Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has expressed heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following his conferment with the prestigious Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) honour.
The award was presented in Abuja on Thursday, June 12, 2025, as part of events marking Democracy Day, which commemorates the restoration of democratic governance in Nigeria.
Established under the National Honour Act CAP N43 of the Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, the honour empowers the President to recognise deserving Nigerians who have significantly contributed to national development.
In a statement to newsmen, Onanuga described the award as both a personal milestone and a tribute to the collective sacrifices made by pro-democracy activists and journalists in the fight for the actualisation of the historic June 12, 1993 election.
“I sincerely appreciate President Tinubu for the national honour conferred on me and my numerous colleagues who braved the odds and the guns to enthrone democracy and fight for the de-annulment of the June 12 election result,” Onanuga stated.
Described as a fearless and dogged journalist, Onanuga pledged to continue serving Nigeria with integrity, humility, and a deep commitment to excellence.
He reaffirmed his dedication to national service, saying the honour would further inspire him to remain steadfast in promoting democracy and good governance.
