The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Professor Turner Timinipre Isoun, describing him as an eminent scholar, visionary leader, former Minister of Science and Technology, and one of the foremost pioneers of Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.
In a condolence message signed by the Director of Corporate Communications and Media Relations, Mrs. Hadiza Umar, NITDA said Professor Isoun’s contributions were instrumental to the establishment and growth of the Agency, laying a solid foundation for Nigeria’s digital transformation and innovation ecosystem.
The Agency noted that Professor Isoun, who served as Nigeria’s Minister of Science and Technology between 2000 and 2007, was a passionate advocate of technology-driven national development and a firm believer in the transformative power of knowledge, innovation and merit.
According to NITDA, his vision and historic commitment helped laid the foundation upon which the Agency continue to drive Nigeria’s digital economy and foster innovation across the country.
The statement described the late professor as a digital philosopher whose ideas transcended borders, leaving an enduring intellectual legacy for Nigeria, Africa and the global technology community. It added that his unwavering belief in a merit-driven society, passion for innovation and dedication to knowledge sharing will continue to inspire those committed to advancing digital transformation and national development.
While describing his passing as a profound loss to the nation and the technology ecosystem, NITDA stressed that Professor Isoun’s legacy lives on through the institutions he helped shape, the policies he inspired and the countless lives he touched.
“The values of integrity, resilience, excellence and service that he embodied will remain a guiding light for NITDA and the broader digital community,” the Agency stated.
The Director-General, management and entire staff of NITDA extended their heartfelt condolences to Professor Isoun’s family, friends, colleagues and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
The Agency prayed that Almighty God grants Professor Turner Timinipre Isoun eternal rest and comfort all those mourning the loss of a man whose vision and leadership played a defining role in shaping Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.
