Baze University, a privately owned University based in Abuja has applauded effort of Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani-Bello in revamping teacher education in the state
The management of the University donated a sum N10 Million to boost efforts of the state government for the Teachers Training. program initiated by the state Governor.
The donation was contained in a cheque and a covering letter to the state governor personally signed by the Pro-Chancellor of the university, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed dated 8th January, 2018 .
In the one page letter titled, “Our Support for Teachers Training in Niger State”, the university said the donation was in fulfilment of the institution’s promise to support the teachers training programme initiated by Gov. Sani-Bello’s administration.
The letter read in part, ” with pleasure and gratitude I submit herewith our cheque of N10 million in favour of Niger State government to fulfil our earlier promise on the above subject accordingly”.
Assuring the people of the state the continued support of the university towards the implementation of teachers training programme, Senator Baba-Ahmed said in the letter, “Your Excellency, be assured of my continued support and highest regards and best wishes”.
Disturbed by the fall in teaching standard in public schools in the state and the attendant lack of years of retraining exercise for teachers, Gov. Sani-Bello reintroduced the teachers training programme, with the establishment of three colleges(Teachers Professional development Institute, TPDI) , one in each geo-political zone of the state.
The adminstration in collaboration with the Cambridge University of United Kingdom had earlier review the teacher’s training curriculum with a view to engaging teachers in refreshers courses.
The state government has earlier constituted a committee headed by Hajiya Dije Bala to midwife the teachers training programme .
The programme has taken off with students selected from each of the 274 wards in Niger state.
