The Court of Appeal has granted a stay of execution in the legal battle over the use of hijab at the International School, University of Ibadan (ISI-UI), allowing Muslim female students to continue wearing the hijab pending the determination of the appeal before the Supreme Court.
In its ruling on Wednesday, the appellate court ordered all parties to maintain the status quo and adjourned the case to October 7, 2026.
The Chairman of the ISI Muslim Parents Forum (ISIMPF), Abdur-Rahman Balogun, announced the development, describing the ruling as a major relief for Muslim parents and students.
According to him, the Court of Appeal granted the application for a stay of execution, ensuring that the existing practice regarding the use of hijab remains in force until the apex court delivers its final judgment.
Balogun also disclosed that the court cautioned the Principal of ISI-UI, Mr. Akintunde, over letters and circulars allegedly threatening students for wearing the hijab, noting that no party had presented a Certified True Copy of the earlier judgment.
With the ruling, Muslim female students at ISI-UI will continue to wear the hijab while the appeal is pending before the Supreme Court.
The matter was adjourned to October 7, 2026, with the court directing all parties to maintain the status quo until the next hearing.
