The Conference of Energy & Finance Consultants (CEFC) has called on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to prioritize the survival and growth of local refineries in Nigeria.
The group made this appeal in a statement signed on Thursday by its spokesman, Engr. Anthony Igeriwa, urging the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, Mallam Mele Kyari, and the CEO of NMDPRA, Mr. Farouk Ahmed, to ensure uninterrupted crude oil supply to local refineries, particularly the Dangote Petrochemical Refinery.
CEFC alleged that plans were underway to halt crude oil supply to local refineries, a move they claimed was orchestrated by fuel importation cartels to maintain their grip on the oil sector at the detriment of Nigerians.
“The recent reduction in fuel importation in the first quarter of 2025 has significantly curbed corruption and ensured the supply of quality petroleum products. Disrupting crude oil supply to Dangote Refinery and others would not only revive corruption but also plunge the nation into unnecessary hardship,” the statement read.
The group praised the Dangote Refinery for producing high-quality, non-adulterated products, which have improved fuel availability and reduced long queues at fuel stations.
CEFC called on the National Assembly to expedite its investigation into the importation of adulterated petroleum products and ensure the continued supply of crude oil to local refineries.
“The era of economic sabotage through fuel importation must come to an end. Supporting local refineries is the only way to secure Nigeria’s energy future,” the group added.
