In a significant welfare initiative aimed at alleviating poverty, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, will disburse N20,000 each to 10,000 less privileged individuals across the 44 local government areas of Kano State.
The initiative, facilitated through the Barau I. Jibrin Foundation (BIJF), will officially kick off on Thursday, October 9, 2025, with the commencement of the selection process and distribution of forms, according to a statement signed by the Senator’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir.
A total of N200 million will be disbursed under the programme, which targets vulnerable groups in all three senatorial districts of Kano State. The largest share—6,500 beneficiaries will come from the Kano North Senatorial District, with 500 persons selected from each of the 13 local government areas. Additionally, 112 beneficiaries will be selected from each local government area in the Kano Central and Kano South districts.
“This initiative is part of Senator Barau’s continued efforts to directly impact the lives of the less privileged in his home state,” the statement read. “It complements the numerous interventions he has made in the areas of education, healthcare, agriculture, security, and transportation.”
The Barau I. Jibrin Foundation has previously offered foreign postgraduate scholarships to indigent students from Kano State, reinforcing its commitment to human capital development.
The Deputy Senate President is also prioritising empowerment for women and youth, which his media aide said remains central to his vision for fostering development and economic growth in the region and the country as a whole.
The distribution of the N20,000 cash support is expected to provide immediate relief to thousands of households struggling with the current economic realities.
