The Federal Ministry of Education has inaugurated chairmen and members of governing boards of key education agencies, principal officers of the newly established Federal University of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship, Bama, as well as the new Rector of Federal Polytechnic N’Yak-Shendam, in a move aimed at deepening reforms and strengthening governance in the education sector.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held at the TETFund Auditorium, Maitama, Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, said the appointments reflected the Federal Government’s commitment to repositioning education as a critical driver of national development.
Alausa said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remained committed to far-reaching reforms focused on improving quality, expanding access, integrating technology and aligning educational outcomes with global standards.
According to him, the governing boards are expected to provide strategic oversight, ensure accountability and support effective implementation of government policies across the agencies.
He urged the newly inaugurated officials to lead with integrity, transparency and innovation, stressing that continuity in leadership must not breed complacency but rather accelerate reforms and institutional growth.
The minister also charged the newly appointed Rector of Federal Polytechnic N’Yak-Shendam to focus on technical and vocational education, skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development to produce graduates equipped with practical and industry-relevant competencies.
On the Federal University of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship, Bama, Alausa tasked the pioneer principal officers with laying a solid institutional foundation through quality academic programmes, impactful research, faculty development and strategic partnerships.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, described the inauguration as timely, noting that the Federal Government was intensifying efforts to improve service delivery, credibility and global competitiveness in the education sector.
She said reforms within the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) were focused on strengthening quality assurance, public examination credibility and technical education advancement through technology, curriculum modernization and industry alignment.
The minister also announced the inauguration of an eight-member committee on facility sharing between the Federal University of Technology, Minna and Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, to support accreditation and clinical training for medical students.
She explained that the committee would develop a framework for effective and sustainable sharing of academic and clinical facilities without disrupting the core mandates of the host institution.
Among those inaugurated were Prof. Babatunde Lawal Salako as Chairman of the Governing Board of NBTE and Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu as Chairman of the Governing Board of NECO.
Others included Shofoyeke David as Executive Secretary of the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration; Dr. Engr. Bongfa Bonfa as Rector of Federal Polytechnic N’Yak-Shendam; Prof. Tijani Kalli as Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship, Bama; alongside other principal officers and governing council members.
The ministry said the appointments and inaugurations formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional governance, improve educational standards and support the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda in the education sector.
