The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced a significant reduction in road traffic crashes and related casualties during its 2026 Eid-el-Kabir Special Patrol Operations, recording one of its most successful festive-season safety campaigns in recent years.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Deputy Corps Commander Osondu Ohaeri, the Corps disclosed that road traffic crashes nationwide dropped by 25.65 per cent, decreasing from 191 cases recorded during the 2025 Eid-el-Kabir period to 142 in 2026.
The operational report also showed a 22 per cent reduction in the number of people involved in crashes, with figures declining from 1,364 persons in 2025 to 1,064 in 2026. Similarly, the number of injured persons fell by 25.35 per cent, from 576 in 2025 to 430 in 2026.
According to the statement, the achievement was driven by proactive traffic management strategies, intensive public enlightenment campaigns, strengthened enforcement activities and enhanced emergency response mechanisms deployed before, during and after the Sallah celebrations.
The Corps noted that strategic deployment of personnel and operational assets across major highways, combined with round-the-clock patrols, intelligence-driven surveillance, motorised chain patrols, prompt rescue operations, traffic calming measures and stakeholder collaborations, contributed significantly to safer travel conditions for millions of Nigerians.
Speaking on the outcome, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended FRSC personnel, Special Marshals and collaborating agencies for their professionalism, dedication and resilience throughout the operation.
He said the results demonstrated that sustained enforcement, strategic planning and collective commitment to road safety could substantially reduce the burden of crashes on Nigerian roads.
Mohammed also expressed appreciation to motorists and other road users who complied with traffic regulations and adhered to the Corps’ safety advisories during the festive period.
While celebrating the gains recorded, the Corps Marshal reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to strengthening its interventions, deepening stakeholder engagement and improving operational efficiency to achieve further reductions in crashes, injuries and fatalities.
He urged Nigerians to maintain safe road practices beyond festive seasons, stressing that road safety remains a shared responsibility requiring the cooperation of all road users.
