The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria has issued a strong disclaimer distancing itself from a fraudulent recruitment message circulating online, which falsely claims to offer employment into the Nigerian Diplomatic Service.
According to the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the message is fake, misleading, and the handiwork of unscrupulous individuals seeking to defraud unsuspecting members of the public. The fraudulent notice allegedly informs recipients that they have been shortlisted for diplomatic appointments and instructs them to make payments for the processing of a so-called “credence note.”
He clarified that Nigerian Missions abroad are not currently recruiting and emphasized that the Ministry does not conduct any recruitment exercise through unofficial channels such as email, WhatsApp messages, or unsolicited direct contact.
The Ministry further stressed that no fees are required at any stage of recruitment or diplomatic postings, noting that all legitimate recruitment into the Nigerian Foreign Service is handled exclusively through the Federal Civil Service Commission Nigeria via official government processes.
The statement also dismissed references in the fake message to clearance by the Department of State Services and attribution to the Ministry’s spokesperson, describing them as deliberate attempts to deceive the public.
The Ministry urged Nigerians to disregard such messages entirely and advised anyone who has received similar communications or has been asked to make payments under this guise to report immediately to security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and integrity, the Ministry encouraged the public to seek verification through its official communication channels for any information regarding recruitment or diplomatic postings.
