The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has expressed regret over the ongoing strike action by members of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), assuring Nigerians that every effort is being made to ensure a quick resolution and full restoration of services.
In a statement issued on Monday, November 3, 2025, the ministry said it remained committed to dialogue and constructive engagement with the leadership of NARD to address outstanding issues in a manner that prioritises both healthcare workers’ welfare and uninterrupted patient care.
“The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare regrets the ongoing strike action by members of NARD and is doing everything possible to get them back to work within the shortest possible time,” the statement read in part.
Despite the industrial action, the ministry noted that medical services are still being provided in hospitals across the country in line with its commitment to maintain continuity of care.
Photographs from the National Hospital, Abuja and the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja, taken on Monday, showed ongoing patient consultations and clinical activities an indication that the system remains functional, though at a limited capacity.
The Ministry reaffirmed its appreciation for the resilience of other healthcare professionals and appealed to all striking doctors to return to the negotiating table in the interest of the nation’s health system and public wellbeing.
“We acknowledge the contributions of all health workers who have continued to provide essential services during this period,” it added.
