The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, has commended Oyo State for its impressive achievements in revenue generation and infrastructure development. He made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the 157th meeting of the Joint Tax Board (JTB), held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Dr. Adedeji expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for hosting the strategic gathering and acknowledged the governor’s efforts in transforming the state’s socioeconomic landscape.
He emphasized the importance of the Joint Tax Board as a critical unifying platform for tax administration in Nigeria, noting its impending transformation into the Joint Revenue Board, subject to legislative approval. According to him, this evolution will further streamline revenue mobilization across the federation.
Highlighting Oyo State’s revenue milestones, Dr. Adedeji revealed a significant 145.5% growth in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) since 2019. He added that Oyo’s 2024 IGR performance stood at ₦65.28 billion, placing it among Nigeria’s top ten states in revenue generation.
The FIRS boss also praised the Makinde-led administration for effectively harnessing the informal sector to drive economic expansion. He specifically commended the “Ise D’Otun” initiative as a model of inclusive economic empowerment.
Adedeji concluded by encouraging all stakeholders to remain committed to enhancing public welfare and sustaining socio-economic development across the state and the nation.
