Niger State Governor,Alhaji Abubakar Sani-Bello has donated the sum of Ten million naira to the Niger state chapter of the Nigeria Legion as a way of expressing his administration commitment in catering for the welfare of the families of ex-servicemen and women who lost their lives or sustained various degrees of injury while on active service to keep the country in peace.
Speaking at the 2020 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Lunch at Government House, Minna, Governor
Abubakar Sani Bello appealed to the legion to ensure that the welfare of the families of the fallen heroes were adequately taken care of.
He called on the Legion to also ensure that the funds raised, should be used judiciously for the purpose meant.
The Governor then called on individuals, religious groups and all Nigerlites, to contribute in their own little way to welfare of the families of servicemen who had lost their lives or got incapacitated in the fight for the peaceful corporate existence of the country.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Niger State Chapter of the Nigeria Legion, Alh. Abubakar Musa Kutigi said, the celebration was in commemoration of the end of the Second World War and to appreciate the sacrifices of the fallen heroes and serving members of the Armed Forces.
Alh. Musa Kutigi then commended the state government towards welfare of the widows and orphans of the fallen heroes.
He called for the assistance of Non-Governmental Organizations to help in providing scholarship for eligible children of the veteran’s family who died in active service up to tertiary level.
