Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu on Tuesday decorated 30 newly promoted senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force, comprising 13 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and 17 Commissioners of Police (CPs), urged them to justify their elevation through exemplary leadership, integrity and commitment to public service.
The decoration ceremony, held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, marked the formal assumption of the officers into their new ranks following their recent promotions.
Addressing the officers, IGP Disu described their promotion as both an honour and a call to greater responsibility, noting that it was a recognition of years of dedicated and meritorious service to the Force.
He acknowledged the sacrifices made by the officers throughout their careers, recalling the family celebrations, birthdays and personal milestones many had missed in the line of duty. The police chief also commended their families for their unwavering support and understanding over the years.
The IGP charged the newly promoted officers to lead with integrity, humility and compassion, stressing that commanders who genuinely prioritise the welfare of their personnel would earn their loyalty and commitment.
He further urged them to strengthen public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force through professionalism and accountability while mentoring younger officers to uphold the highest standards of policing.
“The rank you wear today is not only a symbol of achievement but also a reminder of the enormous responsibility you now carry. Lead in a manner worthy of the trust placed in you and the expectations of the next generation of police officers,” he said.
The newly decorated Assistant Inspectors-General of Police are Obono Nnaghe Itam, Bassey Samuel Ewah, Osagie John Agans-Irabor, Monday Agbonika, Iyamah Daniel Edobor, Isah Danladi Nda, Akaninyene Ifebem Ezima, Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu, Bello Rashid Afegbua, Hycenth Azuka Edozie, Haruna Alaba Yahaya, Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin.
The 17 newly decorated Commissioners of Police include Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle Aremu Murtala, Danbaba Mohammed Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Rita Oyintare Oki, Iya Umar Mohammed, Darma Nuhu Na’aliyu, Nurudeen A. Sabo, Tijani Murtala, Yakubu Mohammed, Ibrahim Lukunche Usman, Akingbade C. Adeyinka, Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, Samuel Erale Etaifo, Taiwo A. Adedeji, Ibrahim Umar D. Zungura and Zainab Audu Pembi.
The ceremony attracted several dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Dr. Oyekachukwu Ibezim; APC Deputy National Woman Leader, Hajia Zainab Ibrahim; Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, representing the state governor; Engr. Ken Ekwemigo, representing the Governor of Anambra State; His Royal Highness Clement Ikolo; Controller-General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche; and Brigadier-General K.C. Uwa.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the welfare, professional development and operational readiness of its personnel as part of ongoing efforts to build a more accountable, effective and citizen-focused policing institution.
