Int’l Women’s Day: Akpabio celebrates Nigerian Women in Senate,vows to promote Rights of Women

The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio has congratulated Nigerian women on the occasion of international Women’s Day 2024

 

Akpabio also seized the occasion to celebrate women in Parliament especially in Nigeria’s Senate.

 

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Principal Officers of the Senate and his colleagues, joined female Senators; Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, Idiat Adebule, Ipalibo Harry Banigo and Ireti Kingibe in celebrating International Women’s Day in the Senate.

 

The Mace of Nigeria Senate was lowered to enable the senators to exit the chamber during plenary to cut the cake in honour of Nigerian Women in the Senate.

 

In his remarks,the President of the Senate , Godswill Akpabio said although women representation in the Senate is low , but Nigeria senate will continue to do all in its powers to promote the rights of women and girls in the country.

 

“‘On behalf of the Senate President and the esteemed members of the Senate, we extend our heartfelt appreciation, acknowledging the unwavering support and invaluable contributions made by Nigerian women to our great nation, Nigeria” he said.

 

The Senate further assured that it will make efforts in ensuring fair legislations supporting women’s Rights in Nigeria.

 

Nigeria Senate currently has 4 female legislators among the 109 Senators

 

The International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8, it is a global day acknowledging the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

The day also mark a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

Not only does it celebrate the achievements and progress women have made, but it also highlights the ongoing struggles for equality and the need for continued advocacy and action worldwide.

On this day, several events take place globally to highlight the collective efforts of everyone who cares about human rights in the ongoing struggle for gender parity.
