Islamic New Year: Speaker Abbas Urges Muslims to Embrace Love, Tolerance

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has called on Muslims across Nigeria to uphold the values of love, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence as they celebrate the commencement of the Islamic New Year 1448 After Hijra (AH).

In a goodwill message marking the beginning of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, Speaker Abbas urged the Muslim Ummah to renew their commitment to the worship of Allah and strengthen bonds of unity among themselves and with adherents of other faiths.

The message, signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, emphasized that love and tolerance are central teachings of Islam as contained in the Holy Quran and the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

According to the Speaker, the New Islamic Year provided an opportunity for Muslims to offer sincere prayers for Nigeria and its leaders, expressing confidence that Allah answers genuine supplications from His servants.

Abbas also stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence, noting that national progress and development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, harmony, and unity.

He encouraged Nigerians to continue promoting mutual understanding and respect across religious and ethnic divides in the interest of national stability.

The Speaker wished Muslims a joyous celebration of the Islamic New Year and prayed for Allah’s blessings, guidance, and protection for all Nigerians throughout the year.

Tuesday, June 16, 2026, mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year 1448 AH and the first day of Muharram.
