Leading engineering and construction giant Julius Berger Nigeria PLC has once again emerged as the Best Construction and Infrastructure Company of the Year (West Africa), clinching the prestigious recognition for the second consecutive year at the 2026 West Africa Innovation Awards held in Lagos.
The company outshined other major players in the region’s construction sector, including Micheleti Construction Ghana Limited and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, to secure the coveted award.
Chairman of the Awards Organising Committee, Canmil Chineme, said the recognition was reserved for brands that have demonstrated excellence in one of the subregion’s most critical industries. According to him, the award aimed to encourage innovation, professionalism, and customer-focused service delivery in line with global best practices.
Chineme disclosed that after extensive consultations and rigorous evaluation by a panel of judges, the Governing Board of the West Africa Innovation Awards selected Julius Berger as the 2026 winner in recognition of its remarkable contributions to innovation, professionalism, and customer service excellence.
Reacting to the award, the company’s Director of Administration, Abdulaziz Isa Kaita, described the recognition as a reaffirmation of Julius Berger’s more than five decades of commitment to excellence, innovation, safety, quality, and nation-building across Nigeria and the wider West African region.
Speaking during his acceptance speech, Kaita said the award symbolised more than corporate success, noting that infrastructure development remains central to economic growth and social transformation.
“Tonight, we celebrate more than concrete, steel, and asphalt. We celebrate vision, resilience, and the transformative power of infrastructure in shaping economies, connecting communities, and improving lives,” he said.
He added that Julius Berger’s legacy spans the delivery of bridges, highways, airports, seaports, hospitals, industrial facilities, and other critical national infrastructure projects across the region.
Kaita further stressed that the company remains committed to investing in innovative engineering solutions, sustainable construction practices, cold recycling technology, local content development, human capital empowerment, as well as health, safety and environmental excellence.
According to him, the company’s projects continue to create jobs, stimulate commerce, improve connectivity, and contribute significantly to national development across West Africa.
He dedicated the award to the company’s workforce, including engineers, architects, technicians, operators, artisans, administrators, and support staff, for sustaining the organisation’s culture of excellence.
The 15th edition of the awards ceremony also recognised several other organisations, including Sovereign Trust Insurance PLC, Vitafoam, CRC Credit Bureau Limited, and West African Human Resource Outsourcing Company, during a colourful evening of celebration and industry recognition in Lagos.
