A new educational institution, Laphils International Academy (LIA), is set to open its doors in September, bringing a holistic and future-focused approach to learning aimed at preparing students for success in an increasingly dynamic and technology-driven world.
Located in Awka, Anambra State, the academy was established from a vision shaped by over 30 years of experience in education and educational administration. The founders said the school was created in response to observed gaps in traditional learning systems, particularly the need for an educational model that balances academic excellence with practical skills, character development, and real-world readiness.
According to the academy, many learners today graduated with strong academic credentials but lack critical competencies such as creativity, leadership, problem-solving, digital literacy, and effective communication. LIA was conceived to bridge this gap by providing a learning environment where students are equipped not only to excel in examinations but also to thrive in higher education, the workplace, and society.
The management of the institution believed that academic excellence should extend beyond memorisation and test performance. Rather, it should produce learners who can think independently, ask meaningful questions, communicate confidently, and demonstrate integrity, empathy, discipline, and leadership in their daily lives.
At the core of the academy’s philosophy is a commitment to creating a nurturing environment where kindness and high expectations work together. School officials say students will be encouraged to embrace challenges, learn from mistakes, and develop resilience while receiving the support needed to achieve their full potential.
“Responsibility learned in kindness is responsibility kept for life,” the founder stated, noting that its approach is designed to raise emotionally secure, morally grounded, and confident young people capable of adapting to a rapidly changing world.
Beyond classroom instruction, Laphils International Academy has incorporated a range of extracurricular activities intended to promote holistic development and help students discover their interests and talents.
Among the programmes are the Young Scientists and Innovators Club, which promotes curiosity and problem-solving; the Public Speaking and Debate Club, aimed at building confidence and communication skills; and the Martial Arts and Self-Defense Club, which focuses on discipline, focus, and resilience.
Other initiatives include the Agriculture and Climate Action Club, designed to foster environmental responsibility and sustainability awareness, as well as the Drama and Performing Arts Club, which encourages creativity, teamwork, and self-expression.
The academy said these clubs form an integral part of its educational framework, ensuring that learning extends beyond textbooks and examinations to encompass practical life experiences and skill development.
Explaining its unique identity, the management noted that LIA seeks to redefine what school feels like for a child by creating a connected learning experience that shape how students think, behave, relate with others, and lead.
As preparations continue for its official launch, the academy disclosed that entrance examinations for prospective students are currently ongoing. The pioneer intake of scholars is expected to form the foundation of a learning community built on excellence, innovation, character, and service.
