A professional group under the APC Professionals Network (APN) has praised the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, for his humility in addressing the petition filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, saying his calm disposition proved he has no skeleton in his cupboard.
In a statement signed by its President, Victor Walsh Oluwafemi, the group expressed confidence in Akpabio’s integrity, emphasized that his humble background and public service record make the sexual harassment allegation against him questionable.
The Senate President, while addressing the petition during Wednesday’s plenary, denied ever being involved in any form of sexual harassment, recounting how his mother single-handedly raised him and his siblings with high moral values.
APN stressed that the Senate is a sacred institution with laid-down legislative procedures, which Akpabio followed meticulously in handling the petition.
“If he had acted otherwise, tongues would have wagged, but he simply invoked the necessary instruments of power as the custodian of the Senate chamber,” the statement noted.
The group urged Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to allow peace to prevail and let the appropriate committees conduct their investigations without turning the matter into unnecessary theatrics that could embarrass the country.
“Nigerians should respect the sanctity of the legislative institution and refrain from politicizing the issue,” the group added.
