Niger State Ministry for Planning Commission has presented the breakdown of the N238.92b proposed 2023 budget estimate.
Commissioner and Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, Mallam Zakari Abubakar made the presentation to journalists at the Government House, Minna.
Abubakar said that the 2023 proposed appropriation bill tagged ‘budget of consolidation and transition” is aimed at completing projects that have reached advanced stage.
The Commissioner explained that the proposed budget is composed of N91.044, 745, 351.31 representing 38.11 per cent and N147, 879, 712, 431, 16 representing 61.89 per cent recurrent and capital expenditures respectively.
Presenting the highlights of capital expenditure, Abubakar explained that N98.7b has been earmarked for the economic sector comprising agriculture, livestock, investment, infrastructure, water resources, and planning commission among others.
He said Agricultural sub-sector is expected to gulp N7.42b which will cater for value chain activities, provision of rural roads, purchase of fertilizer as well as women and youth friendly equipment.
The Commissioner stated that the sum of N1.5b has been budgeted for livestock to develop Bobi Grazing Reserve, N663.18m is provided for the completion of electricity projects, N100m to promote Small and Medium Enterprises(SMEs), and N436.9m is provided for state enterprise promotion in agriculture, renewable energy and cotton loop.
He disclosed that infrastructure sub-sector has the highest allocation of N53.48m with N38b expected to complete ongoing reconstruction of state roads while N13.79b was allocated for township roads and N823.8m has been estimated for the construction and rehabilitation of public offices.
The Commissioner further explained that the sum of N7.4b has been earmarked for water projects across the state, N547.4m is expected to be spent on road maintenance.
He said the social sector has an estimated budget of N38.4b in which education has N16.5b, health to gulp N15.8m, sports sector is earmarked N383.8m and internal security as well as humanitarian affairs has N478.9m.
