Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued nine kidnapped victims, recovered 56 rustled livestock, and arrested a suspected terrorist during separate intelligence-led operations in Katsina State.
The successful operations, carried out across Faskari, Bakori, and Danmusa Local Government Areas, underscore the military’s sustained offensive against terrorists and criminal elements in the North West.
According to the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 2, while on fighting patrol in Faskari Local Government Area, rescued nine kidnapped victims comprising three women, four men, and two children.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were abducted by terrorists on July 9, 2026, along the Tsafe-Kuchere Road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The victims told troops they escaped from the terrorists’ enclave after their captors fell asleep before they were intercepted and rescued.
The victims are currently in safe custody and are being processed for reunification with their families.
In a separate operation based on credible intelligence, troops responded to reports of terrorists rustling livestock in Bakori Local Government Area. On sighting the troops, the terrorists opened fire but were overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower and fled into the surrounding bush.
The troops recovered 56 rustled livestock, comprising four cattle and 52 sheep, which are being held pending handover to the appropriate local authorities.
Meanwhile, troops also arrested a suspected terrorist during routine operations in Danmusa Local Government Area. Preliminary exploitation of items recovered from the suspect revealed materials believed to be linked to terrorist activities. The suspect remains in military custody and is undergoing further investigation.
