The Niger State Police Command has arrested multiple suspects in a series of coordinated operations targeting drug abuse, violent crime, armed robbery, vandalism and receiving stolen property across Minna and Mokwa.
According to a crime bulletin issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the arrests were carried out between 13th and 21st May 2026 by operatives of Bosso, Tudun-Wada, Kpakungu and Mokwa Divisions acting on credible intelligence and distress calls.
In the first incident, on 13th May 2026, police operatives raided black spots around Unguwan-Biri in Minna and arrested three suspects identified as Aliyu Adamu (27), Naja’atu Ibrahim (18) and Umar Abubakar (17). The suspects were allegedly found in possession of suspected cannabis, shisha pots, shisha flavour packs and charcoal. They are currently under investigation and will be charged to court.
In a separate development, on 14th May 2026, a 13-year-old boy, Ibrahim Sani, was arrested for alleged criminal intimidation and unlawful sexual intercourse with a 4-year-old girl in the Bosso area. The victim was immediately taken to the Police Clinic in Minna for medical attention. The suspect reportedly confessed and the case has been transferred for further investigation.
On 18th May 2026, police operatives in Tudun-Wada intervened in a violent clash involving suspected thugs in the Tunga area, who were armed with cutlasses, knives and other dangerous weapons. One suspect, Abubakar Mohammed (20), allegedly attempted to attack officers and was shot in the leg during the process of disarmament. He was arrested and taken to hospital for treatment.
Similarly, on 21st May 2026, four suspects were arrested over a burglary at the River Basin Women Development Initiative Office, where items including sewing machines, regulators, a gas cylinder and other equipment valued at over ₦900,000 were stolen. Investigations revealed that some items were sold to receivers, who have also been arrested, while some stolen property has been recovered.
In another case on 19th May 2026, police arrested Abubakar Lawal (28) in connection with the snatching of a Bajaj motorcycle along Talba Road, Gidan-Kwanu. He allegedly attacked the victim with a hammer before making away with the motorcycle.
Also, on 20th May 2026, police in Mokwa arrested four suspects linked to vandalism of water installation infrastructure, including pipes, transformer coils, cables and an engine. Two suspects reportedly confessed, while receivers were also arrested with suspected stolen materials.
The Command confirmed that all suspects are in custody, with investigations ongoing and prosecutions to follow where necessary.
