The Niger State Police Command has dismissed as false reports alleging that hoodlums attacked schools in Bosso, Kpakungu, Sabon-Wuse and Lambata areas of the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Command said it had conducted verification visits to all the schools mentioned in the reports and found that no such attacks occurred.
The police described the circulating claims as misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents, parents, students and school authorities.
“The Command hereby states categorically that, having visited all the schools mentioned in these areas, no such attack occurred in any school within the State,” the statement said.
According to the Command, preliminary findings suggest that the report may have been fabricated by mischief makers seeking to spread fear and anxiety within the public and educational communities.
The police disclosed that intelligence investigations have commenced to identify the source of the false information and bring those responsible to justice.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, had earlier directed Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to strengthen collaboration with school administrators in line with ongoing school protection initiatives aimed at enhancing the security of learning environments across the state.
The Command added that police visibility patrols have been intensified around schools to reassure students, teachers, parents and host communities of their safety and to prevent any security breaches.
It urged members of the public to verify information before sharing it, warned that the spread of unverified reports could create unnecessary fear, disrupt academic activities and undermine public confidence in security efforts.
The police further encouraged residents, school authorities and community leaders to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or security concerns to the nearest police formation.
