The Niger State Police Command has intensified its enforcement campaign against unregistered vehicles, defaced number plates and unauthorized tinted glasses, impounding an additional 115 vehicles across the state.
The Command said the affected vehicles were intercepted in various police formations for operating without registration number plates, displaying defaced or obscured number plates, or using tinted glasses without any lawful justification.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, all impounded vehicles underwent proper screening, while more than 90 vehicles found to have violated the law were investigated and arraigned before courts of competent jurisdiction for prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, commended officers involved in the exercise for demonstrating professionalism, civility and respect for human rights while carrying out the enforcement.
He urged personnel to sustain the operation in line with standard operating procedures, stressing that the exercise is aimed at improving public safety and strengthening efforts to prevent and detect crime.
The police commissioner also appreciated the cooperation of residents, particularly vehicle owners, for supporting the ongoing enforcement campaign.
Elleman explained that the operation is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to curb vehicle-related crimes and enhance security across the state.
He advised motorists to ensure their vehicles are properly registered and fitted with clearly visible registration number plates at all times, while urging the public to comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with police personnel during the exercise.
