Niger Set To Establish Cancer Centre …. As Gov Sani-Bello Joins Breast Cancer Awareness Walk

As efforts are being intensified to combat cancer disease, Niger State Government is to establish a cancer centre at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) Specialist Hospital, Minna.

Governor Sani-Bello disclosed this during the awareness campaign of breast cancer early detection organized by the RAISE foundation and the Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Centre under the auspices of Dr. Amina Abubakar Bello.

He said that cancer was a global disease and needed to be eradicated, as such Nigeria has joined other countries to tackle the disease.

“That is why we are making effort to have a cancer centre at the New IBB Specialist Hospital and hopefully that project will take off soon”, he said.

He added that the disease has become a major threat to life in the society and more have to be done to eliminate it.

The Governor appreciated the RAISE Foundation and the Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Centre, Minna for bringing awareness of breast cancer disease to the people.

He added that the awareness campaign should be done often, saying that it created avenue of keeping the people fit that participated in the exercise.

Earlier in her remarks, Dr. Amina Abubakar Bello said that the awareness was to dictate breast cancer at early stage for proper care and treatment.
She added that the foundation has commenced free breast cancer screening which would last to the end of this month.

According her, treatment and assistance would be given to those dictated to have the disease.
She called for support from corporate bodies in the fight against the disease.

Governor Sani-Bello joined his wife and founder Raise Foundation, Dr Amina Abubakar Bello in the fight against breast cancer in the state through awareness campaign on Saturday in Minna.

The awareness campaign tagged, “Minna Walk Away Cancer” brought together stakeholders in public and private sectors, women and youth groups in early morning walk in Minna Metropolis.

Gov Sani-Bello was accompanied by his Deputy, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Ketso, Secretary to Niger State Government, SSG, Hon Ibrahim Isa Ladan and Chief of Staff, Hon Mikhail Almin Bmitosahi.
The wife of the Deputy Governor, Hajiya Aisha Ahmed Ketso, wives of commissioners were also in the awareness campaign.

Also in the cancer awareness walk were Commissioners, Special Advisers, Director Generals, Coordinators and other stakeholders.
