The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended warm congratulations to the Government and people of Togo on the occasion of their 66th Independence Anniversary, celebrating decades of sovereignty and national development.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, Nigeria joined Togo in marking the milestone, noting that the anniversary commemorates 66 years of independence since April 27, 1960. The government described the occasion as not only a celebration of freedom from colonial rule but also an opportunity to reflect on Togo’s progress in political stability, economic growth, and institutional development.
The Ministry acknowledged Togo’s resilience and sustained commitment to nation-building, highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen democratic governance, improve infrastructure, and boost regional trade. It also commended reforms aimed at creating a more conducive business environment, which have enhanced the country’s standing within the West African sub-region.
Nigeria further praised Togo’s role in promoting regional peace and stability, particularly through its active participation in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). According to the statement, Togo’s contributions to conflict prevention, diplomacy, and regional integration have been instrumental in fostering cooperation across West Africa.
Reaffirming the longstanding relationship between both countries, Nigeria noted that bilateral ties are anchored on shared history, cultural affinity, and mutual respect. It added that both nations continue to collaborate on common challenges, including security, economic diversification, and sustainable development.
The Federal Government also reiterated its commitment to deepening cooperation in key sectors such as trade and investment, maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, energy, youth development, and cultural exchange.
Nigeria concluded by wishing Togo continued peace, stability, and prosperity, expressing optimism for stronger partnership and greater achievements in the years ahead.
