The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter, have pledged to strengthen collaboration aimed at enhancing professionalism, ethical standards, and strategic communication in public relations practice across the public sector.
This was the outcome of a courtesy visit by the National Public Relations Officer (NPRO) of the NCS, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, to the NIPR FCT Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, May 16, 2025.
Maiwada, who led a delegation of officers from the Service’s Public Relations Unit, said the visit was part of ongoing efforts to foster institutional partnerships and promote knowledge sharing between the NCS and the professional body.
“We believe that excellence and professionalism should be the hallmark of Public Relations practice in the Nigeria Customs Service and beyond,” he said.
He added that the PR Unit under his leadership is powered by youthful energy, commitment, and the consistent support of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi.
Receiving the delegation, the Chairman of NIPR FCT Chapter, Stanley Ogadigo, commended the leadership of the Customs Service for its strategic communication efforts, particularly under the current Comptroller-General.
“We’re glad that the Comptroller-General of Customs has not disappointed us. He’s doing a great job and remains a shining example,” Ogadigo stated.
He expressed the Institute’s readiness to support initiatives that promote effective public relations in government institutions, including capacity building, corporate social responsibility, and joint advocacy campaigns.
During the meeting, both parties discussed opportunities for training, professional development, and ways to adapt public communication to the fast-evolving media landscape.
They reaffirmed their commitment to continuous learning and strengthening the credibility of public institutions through ethical and strategic PR practices.
The engagement ended on a positive note, with the NCS and NIPR FCT Chapter expressing readiness to pursue mutually beneficial initiatives that will improve public sector communication across the country.
