Nigeria Customs Service earns CAVB Commendation for hosting historic 39th Women’s Volleyball Championship

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has been commended by the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) for its outstanding role in the successful hosting of the 39th edition of the Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship, held in Abuja from April 1 to 14, 2025.

The commendation came in a formal letter of appreciation signed by CAVB President, Bouchra Hajij, and addressed to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi. In the letter dated May 22, 2025, Hajij described the tournament as a historic milestone, being the first time in many years that the championship was hosted outside North Africa.

She noted that the event not only redefined standards in sports hosting on the continent but also exemplified inclusivity and excellence, thanks to the visionary leadership of the NCS. “It was clearly demonstrated that sport transcends mere competition, serving as a powerful vehicle for social transformation,” the statement read.

The CAVB further praised the Customs Service’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), highlighting the world-class facilities, smooth logistics, and vibrant atmosphere that enriched the experience for athletes and spectators alike.

The championship’s success, according to the CAVB, was a direct result of the NCS’s strategic planning and generosity. It served as a platform to empower women and youth through sports and showcased how institutions can play a central role in advancing inclusive development.

Describing the NCS as “an ample and able partner of African Volleyball,” the CAVB expressed confidence that the 2025 tournament will leave a lasting legacy and serve as a benchmark for future events across Africa.

In response, the NCS, under the leadership of CGC Adeniyi and his management team, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote youth development, gender inclusion, and the global image of Nigeria.

The Service also extended gratitude to stakeholders, partners, and the general public for their support in making the championship a resounding success.
